Safety tips:
A gas wall heater is dangerous if it is leaking gas or gets mishandled. If you are looking to repair your heater, you will need the relevant skills to determine what is wrong, first.
1 Turn off the gas to the house..
2 Determine your problem. Is the heater leaking gas? Not heating? Is it noisy? Is the pilot light out?
3 Call to professional for repair service

Installation of the wall heater

Step 1: Choose a gas furnace that will meet your needs. Determine the size of the area that needs heating. Is it a large room or a small one? The size of the area that needs to heated will determine the size of the gas wall furnace.
Step 2: Be careful to install the gas wall furnace as the manual specifies. Keep the necessary space between the furnace and the wall, and install the furnace by attaching it to a metal plate on the wall.
Step 3: Install the wall furnace on the inside of an exterior wall. The vent cap must be flush to the exterior wall. Mount your furnace between the studs. Make sure the cut through the wall for the installation of the vent for the gas heater is level. You do not want rain or any moisture driven into the hole and down into the furnace where it could possibly corrode the furnace.
Step 4: Do not hook up the connections for the gas pipes yourself. This must be done by a professional. You can find gas technicians in the phone book or by asking for references from neighbors or building supply store.
How wall heaters works:

Gas wall heaters work by convection, which means that they heat the air in front of people and objects, giving the room a toasty glow. There are two types of gas wall heaters. Some gas wall heaters have a pipe to the outside that allows them to pull air into the unit which in turn allows the gas to burn. This same pipe expels any possibly harmful fumes back outside as well. There are also ventless gas wall heaters, which work a little differently and actually draw the air from the room in order to heat the room.
Ventless gas wall heaters that were installed before 1980 should be replaced because they do not have the oxygen depletion sensor that newer models have. While most gas wall heaters only last about 20 years and the chances of someone coming into contact with a working one that was installed before that are slim, some older homes still have them.
The oxygen depletion sensor in newer models will shut off the gas automatically if the oxygen levels in the room drop down to 18 percent. This is very rare though.
Gas wall heaters have some definite advantages. First, they give off a very even heat with no drafts, whereas an electric wall heater may work harder to blow enough warm air into the room to heat it. Another advantage is that gas wall heaters will continue to work even if the power is out. Finally, they are self-contained, which means that they need no boiler.
Gas wall heaters also some have a few disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that they are not so good for heating your entire home. They will only heat the room in which the wall heater is mounted. Another disadvantage is that when you use gas to heat there is a byproduct from the fossil fuels. Finally, if you try to install your gas wall heater yourself, there is the possibility of gas leaks.

Overall gas wall heaters are a very good and inexpensive way to heat the rooms in your home. While they do have disadvantages, most of them can be overcome with a little understanding of which type of gas wall heater you have and how that particular type works.
